The First Day of Preschool at Studio One

The First Day of Preschool at Studio One was amazing, way better than I had ever visioned it would be. The kiddos were very entertained while we were doing Music with Movement and I love that they were learning tons while giggling.

Today I wanted to introduce to the preschoolers the materials that are on our math and sensorial shelves. These shelves have "Help Yourself Activities" on them for the children to explore independently or with their friends. I presented the materials one by one to ensure that they would know how to use them.

Before we begun our exploration of the math/sensorial area I invited them to a hands on math lesson.

This turned out to be a perfect way for me to observe who can match, and who understood one to one correspondence. They did an awesome job!

They all chose a different activity with focused attention. Floam with numbers held a child's attention for a whole 20 minutes.

Watching two friends go around the room to find various things to weigh made this preschooler teacher's heart smile.

"Look I made a snake!", one child screamed. It wasn't difficult at all to keep everyone's hands busy.

During our story time we read the "The Little Engine That Could" by Watty Piper. This lead us to our project time.... How many balls of play dough can the car pull? They were great at taking turns and experimenting. The car is motorized so the kiddos were learning about force and motion without realizing it.

It was a great first day of preschool and I am looking forward to many more days like this. And I plan to share them here on the blog, so stay tuned!
