My Sunshine Play Doh Kit

You can take the play doh from the child, but you can’t keep the child from still wanting to play with play doh.

Keeping up with CDC guidelinges in regards to Covid-19 has been keeping us in a constant state of change. New arrival routines, and plenty other new ways to do the things we do has been ongoing. During the first two weeks of fully reopening our free choice play doh cart was not available, Boo!

Once again our preschool curriculum Experience Early Learning inspired me. It really inspired me to think of a creative way to offer play doh to the children while meeting CDC Guidelines regarding use of play doh in a group setting.

Our Sunshine Play Doh Kit is inspired by our table top math game provided in our curriculum by Experience Early Learning. For the game a Die was provided and the Yellow Striped Straws. The child explores the materials (play doh and straws), and then the game begins. Roll the die, and then add that many straws to the play dough. A very fun game!

During these times special precautions of sharing items must be considered and the sharing of play doh in a group setting is strongly advised NOT to do by the CDC during a COVID-19 outbreak, or to stop the spread. Since the children were now showing habits of washing hands at other appropriate times I felt comfortable to introduce a play doh activity and thought why not just make it a themed play doh kit for the week that each child can have for personal use.

Very refreshing to feel the energy that play doh brings to the early learners in our lives.

The yellow striped straws provided by Experience Early Learning were very well recieved materials in the play doh tray that led to curiosity filled discussions about the Sun being a star, counting stars, and sun rays.

It will never cease to amaze me how important play doh really is in everyday learning.

Side note: Children wash their hands prior to using play doh and right after using it.

If play doh becomes dirty before the week is over it is thrown away and replaced In a clean container. Each week  the child has a new play doh theme kit to personally use.
